MVH Bangor Veteran of the Month: Mack Gwinn

Mack William Gwinn Jr. was born in Quincy, Florida, in 1944, to a family with a distinguish history of military service. His grandfather served in World War I, and Mack’s father, Lt. Colonel Mack W. Gwinn Sr., distinguished himself in both WW II and The Korean War.  No one was surprised when Mack Jr. choose to enlist in the U.S. Army in 1961, following his graduation from Sewanee Military Academy.

MVH Machias Veteran of the Month: Robert Hall

Robert W. Hall was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in July 1937,  the eldest child, to William and Ruth Hall. Growing up, Robert remembers his family spending many months of the year in Cape Cod where he spent his time striper fishing and hunting with his cousin.

MVH South Paris Veteran of the Month: Wayne Tilley

Wayne Tilley was born on March 12, 1934, in Harrison, Maine, and grew up in Norway, Maine. He has 2 brothers, Barry and David. Wayne went to the Norway High School and graduated in 1952. In July 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the Seabees.  He worked in the construction area, building factories and repairing and building homes for the people that lived in the Philippines.  He also helped build the longest air strip on the coast.  Wayne was honorably discharged in July 1957, and returned to Maine to look for work.

MVH Bangor Veteran of the Month: Walton O’Roak

Walt was born on March 11, 1922, in Sherman Mills, Maine.  Raised on a farm, he attended a one-room schoolhouse, and later graduated from Sherman High School. In 1940, he enrolled at Ricker College, but following America’s entry into WWII, he left Ricker to enlist in the U.S. Navy.
