Once you have toured any of our six Maine Veterans’ Homes and are interested in living at MVH as a resident, we encourage you to talk with a member of our Admissions Team who will assist you in learning more about admission and eligibility criteria, level of care options, financial options and completing an application. Both online and paper applications that provide an email address to contact you are acceptable.

Steps to Take Before Applying to Maine Veterans’ Homes

  • Contact one of the six Maine Veterans’ Homes in Maine.
  • Request and take a tour of your Home of choice.
  • Request a copy of your or your loved one’s DD-214 military discharge paperwork or ask an MVH Admissions Team member for assistance obtaining this paperwork. If you do not have a copy of your DD-214, you may request one using the following link: https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records.
  • Inform your or your loved one’s primary care provider of your intent to apply for residency.

The following information is necessary to apply to MVH

  • Medical history from your doctor and their contact information.
  • Level of care that you or your loved one requires.
  • Payment source – What methods of payment are available to you? This might include your VA Benefits, Medicaid or Medicare, or other resources.

Contact a member of our Admissions team for assistance.  We are happy to help you determine what level of care is needed and financial options to you.  You may also wish to review our Pay for Care

Availability at MVH

Because of the changing resident population at each of our Homes, it’s best to talk with a member of the MVH Admissions Team to understand our current ability to admit your loved one.

When a vacancy occurs, those who are on the waitlist are contacted. If at the time of notification, you decline the offer to move, you may remain on the list or be removed if circumstances have changed.

Once a bed is available or an opening is anticipated then the admissions coordinator will assist you or your family to gain the necessary information for your application. Veterans receive priority status on the MVH wait list over non-veterans (spouses of a Veteran or Gold Star Parents.) Applicants who have a serious medical condition will be considered for priority status. If your situation changes at any time, contact your Admissions Team Member at the Home of your choice to notify them of your change of status.
