The first of our six facilities, our Augusta home opened in March of 1983, and is located in a beautiful country setting that includes fields, woods and a natural wetland area. Inside the facility you will find 24 hour RN coverage in three separate nursing units: a 40 bed rehabilitation and skilled nursing care unit, a 40 bed long-term care unit and a 40 bed secured long-term care unit for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias and a 30 bed residential care unit designed to meet the needs of those in the early stages of dementia. The focus is on returning the patient to their home and community, whenever possible.
Maine Veterans’ Home of Augusta is a teaching facility. We maintain affiliations with hospitals, schools of medicine, universities, community colleges and vocational schools. Medical students, social workers, nurses, certified nursing assistants, therapists and dietary technicians train at our facility. Our Medical Director comes to us through an arrangement with the University of New England (UNE), Division on Aging. UNE also provides educational programs to our staff. These affiliations help to keep us on the leading edge of gerontological nursing and geriatric medicine.
All MVH facilities have achieved elite National SILVER Quality Award for Achievement in Quality by the American Health Care Association, placing them in the top 4% of nursing homes nationally.
