Recovering from significant illness or surgery becomes increasingly more difficult as we age. MVH can provide the assistance needed in our Homes until you are well enough to return to your own home with a short-term skilled nursing and therapy admission. The skilled staff at Maine Veterans’ Homes work with you to develop a customized treatment plan that provides the rehabilitative care and therapy you need to get back to your daily life as quickly as possible. Our team of expert healthcare professionals comprised of nurses, PT, OT, ST, and RT will assist you and your family, providing skilled instruction as well as compassionate support, motivation, and inspiration. We also provide comprehensive discharge planning, which may include home assessments for modification and equipment recommendations. Family training and education are also available to help the people closest to you become even stronger sources of support in your recovery and return home.
Our services do not end when your therapy sessions are over as we also provide comprehensive discharge planning. This may include home assessments for modification, equipment recommendations, and exercise programs to support healing. Family education is also available to help the people closest to you become even stronger sources of support during your recovery.
Patients and Caregivers are advised to pre-book post-acute care, rehabilitation, and therapy whenever possible to ensure availability, alleviate stress, and provide the time necessary to determine eligibility and apply for Veteran benefits. If you are an honorably discharged Veteran who was a Maine resident at the time of your entry into the U.S. Armed Forces or if you are a resident of Maine at the time of your application, you are eligible for rehabilitation or therapy at Maine Veterans’ Homes. If you are a spouse, widow, or widower of a Veteran or Gold Star parent, you are also eligible for admission to the Rehabilitation and Therapy programs at Maine Veteran’s Homes. There is no requirement for the Veteran to have served in combat or have a service-connected disability but all Veterans must meet medical eligibility requirements.
Residential Care – Assisted Living and Memory Care
Residential Care supports the highest level of independence and dignity for our residents in a homelike and supportive environment. They provide therapeutic and engaging activities, including community outings, to help our residents live safely, comfortably, and with complete dignity. Most Residential Care Homes require a dementia diagnosis. MVH Homes are specially equipped to provide supportive memory care for Veterans throughout their varying stages of dementia in a secure environment.
.Our staff possess the knowledge and resources to provide your loved one with caring, compassionate support. In addition to taking care of our residents’ daily living needs, we also provide security, medication assistance, and social interaction – essential services for a safe, healthy, and dignified experience.
Long Term Care
Residents who receive long-term care at our Homes are provided with 24-hour supportive, and loving care in an environment that stresses dignity and individuality. Our award-winning, customized care programs are developed for each resident’s individual needs and are continuously monitored to meet and exceed quality measures.
Respite Care
Being a full-time caregiver takes an enormous amount of strength, and a break is often needed for your well-being and health. Respite care can relieve you for a brief period, up to 30 days, allowing you to visit relatives, take much-needed time for yourself, or receive medical care. Our respite care program is an adult care service that offers caregivers short-term relief when they need it. We care for your loved one like they are one of our own, allowing you relief from stress or fatigue and offering the peace of mind you need.
