Respite Care Gives Caregivers Peace of Mind

Here at Maine Veterans’ Homes, we know caregivers sometimes need a helping hand, and our respite care team is here to help. Whether it’s for a day or just a few hours, you can feel confident your loved one is in good hands with our professional caregivers and fellow veterans here at MVH.

What is Respite Care?

We know being a primary caregiver can be stressful at times. There will be times when something comes up, you’re going out of town or you just need a few hours to yourself. Our respite care program is an adult care service that offers caregivers short-term relief when they need it. With our respite care service, you can relieve stress and gain peace of mind knowing your loved one is in good hands.

Time Spent with Other Veterans

We know how much veterans enjoy being around other veterans and how important it is for them to be with others who understand. Our mission is to serve those who have served our country, which is why everything we do includes understanding and camaraderie. At least 75 percent of our residents at each of our six locations are veterans, so our respite care guests are surrounded by veterans just like them. Our respite care service also includes activities, making socialization easier for your loved one.

Activities at Maine Veterans’ Homes

Our respite care veterans can participate in all the activities available to our daily residents. They can try our meals, enjoy our accommodations and meet our residents during some of our various activities and events, such as:

  • Outings to patriotic, community and other events
  • Card games
  • Patriotic celebrations
  • Musical events
  • Pet therapy
  • And more!
